April 9th 1969, The Beatles Penultimate Photo Shoot, One Year & One Day Prior to the end of the Greatest Group ever.
All four Beatles were willing to pose for fresh images in April of 1969, without a doubt, it was a damage limitation exercise to stem the flow of negative press.
First images all featured John's White Rolls Royce Phantom V, reg # EUC 100C.
When the complete set of 38 exhibition prints arrived there two versions of this image, the first was quite large at 38"x 28", this 2nd pic is much smaller 28"x18", of the 38, this pic is the only one which was duplicated.
As for the car itself, John sold it to Alan Klein in 1969, it was auctioned by Christies in 1985 (with a reserve of 250k pounds) it failed to attract a buyer, it remained in the Klein estate and underwent a 25 year restoration, it was exhibited for the first time just over two weeks ago, now with a value in the 5m + pounds range.
This is the same car that delivered John & Yoko to Apple after collecting the humble Hofner lap steel guitar, and taking it to the studio with them.
