Information about the Powercoil posted on Aerotech’s site, 2008:
“Winning a pro tour event is always exciting for a shaft manufacturer, but winning a Long Drive event is extremely rewarding because power, accuracy and distance are primary objectives for every shaft design,” says Chris Hilleary, president of Aerotech Golf. “The Powercoil shaft design is one of the most stable shafts in golf and is uniquely designed for distance because the surface layer loads in tension during the swing to store energy more efficiently.”
The Aerotech Powercoil features a ‘hoop wind’ graphite layer that runs around the shaft perpendicular to its longitudinal axis, thus maintaining the shaft’s round profile and eliminating unwanted clubhead oscillation during the swing. Aerotech shaft’s ‘hoop strength’ is superior to other shafts because each shaft has a unique full layer of continuous carbon fiber spiraled down the shaft’s entire length.
And the winners...
At the Open Division of the California and Nevada Regional of the Re/Max World Long Drive Championship, one third of the Men’s Open Division winners trusted the Aerotech Powercoil HP65 and the innovative shaft design delivered long-distance results.
Long Drive competitor Jason Frey captured the runner-up position for the Men’s Open Division with a
402-yard blast
with a driver custom-fit with an Aerotech Powercoil HP65 shaft. Similarly, Stuart Yoshida hammered a
399-yard drive
with an Powercoil HP65 shaft. As top regional finishers, the two men will advance to the 2008 RE/MAX World Long Drive Championship finals, which will take place in Mesquite, Nev., on October 20-25, 2008.
In addition, Frey and Yoshida accounted for the three longest drives of the entire competition.
During the qualifying rounds, Frey hit drives for 434 yards and 430 yards and Yoshida drove one for 420 yards.
Both men played drivers custom-fit by John Greenwood of Greenwood’s Golf in Dublin, Calif.

At the regional finals at the High Cedars Golf Course in Washington,
Bruce Evans won the Senior Division and Tim Shannon won the Grand Champion division of the RE/MAX Long Drive qualifier event.
Both players trusted Aerotech’s PowerCoil HP65 graphite shaft with ‘hoop wind’ technology in their drivers to outdistance their competitors. Evans needed Aerotech’s 4X flex to handle his power, while Shannon finessed the 2X.
Even in very tough conditions
Evans won his division delivering a winning drive of 337 yards
. He has competed in the RE/MAX World Championship seven times and finished as the runner-up in the Open Division in 1995.
Shannon captured his title with a 313-yard blast.
