The modern easel brush has a long 12” (30cm) tapered handle and a seamless, flattened ferrule that allows artists to stand away from the easel by holding the brush at the end of the handle. This design has remained largely unchanged for the past 300 years, not because it is ideal but because it was the universally accepted way to make a brush. However, this design has several distinct problems. Although many brushes claim to provide a balanced experience, this is only true when gripped a few inches from the ferrule. This obviously defeats the purpose of the easel brush. Instead of finding yourself taking advantage of the brush’s length, you find yourself, through trial and error, holding the brush near the ferrule, where it is most comfortable and at its widest diameter. If you hold the brush at its end, the handle tends to flop down causing a loss of control and requiring you to hold the brush extremely firm just to make the stroke. This is because the weight is all in the front of the brush. Because of this, the pointed end of the handle essentially serves no purpose at all.

Chelsea Classical Studio brushes have three patented changes that make the brush feel lighter and not front heavy, so you can hold them at their farthest end comfortably. This allows for not only a controlled stroke, but also smooth transitioning long strokes.
The handles do not taper, and the diameter of the handle is consistent throughout which makes the most comfortable area to hold the brush more towards the back. These patented changes apply not only the the standard 300mm handle brushes, but also with the extensions making the brushes 400mm long.
The exclusively patented brush ferrules have both side support and a domed cut out, so that the brushes with long hair put the force of your stroke at the tip allowing the brush to hold more paint and ensuring no hairs splay, for truer painting results.
