OPENERSby Rev. Roger Roky Kynard Erickson. LIKE NEW First Edition, First Printing stated hardcover, produced in 1972 by Pyramid Publishing Company, Austin, TX.
A collection of lyrics written during the 3 and a half years that Erickson, formerly lead singer and guitarist of the psychedelic rock group 13th Floor Elevators, spent at the State Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Austin, Texas, where he had been held after pleading "not guilty by reason of insanity" to the 1969 felony charge of possession of a single marijuana joint. While a "patient," he underwent involuntary electro-convulsive therapy, thorazine treatments, and even started a band with fellow inmates, a band appropriately called The Missing Links. The OPENERS
manuscript
is rumored to have been smuggled out of the hospital by the family in an effort to raise money for Roky’s defense. Rare, collectible music memorabilia. Only about 1000 originally produced. Postscript: Roky Erickson passed away in Austin on May 31, 2019.
