Description
Rare old souvenir metal building bank of a Scheut Mission house in China, most likely made in Belgium or Holland in the 1930's.This metal bank has a red pagoda style roof on top of a simple rectangular tan painted building. The front has a full color paper mural of the Virgin Mary holding the baby Jesus. The metal base is embossed "SCHEUT - MISSIE". The coin slot is on top of the roof, and the bottom has two screws to release the base. It also has the original paper label in Dutch describing the Scheut Missions throughout Asia, Africa and Central America.
It stands 4.75" tall by 4" wide by 3" deep, and weighs almost 1 lb.
The Scheut Roman Catholic missions were established in Belgium in 1862 to spread Christianity throughout Asia and Africa. This Asian mission building bank was probably made as a fundraising tool back in the day.
