For sale is a vintage souvenir building replica of the Southwestern Savings & Loan Assn. bank in Houston, TX.
It was issued by Banthrico in 1949, making it one of that manufacturer's oldest promotional-advertising banks.
It is NOT listed in either
Monumental Miniatures
(Weingarten/Majua) or
Replica Buildings
(Merwine), but can be found in Lance Oldham's definitive catalog of
Banthrico Buildings
. It is # 231 and assigned the second highest rating in rarity by the author, an E/F.
It is in
very used overall good condition and measures
4 1/2" X 2 1/4" X 3 7/8" high.
The trap is intact, there is no key as is common in these older banks.
This is a scarce older Banthrico bank that does not come up often.
