Description
Of all the Beatlespublications
that were p
rinted
during the heat of Beatlemania, I think the
BEATLE FUN KIT
has got to be the best,
the
c
rème de la crème
of the Beatles
publications
.
It
was
much more
than a magazine. I
t
really
was a “
FUN KIT
”
with a wealth of photos and
articles, stories, and especially,
activities inside
.
It’s the activities that make this surpass other Beatles mags that contained just photos and stories.
Many of the contents in the
BEATLE
FUN KIT
have dotted borders and were intended to be cut out
to wear, pin or tape to walls or mirrors, taped to school lockers, put on signs,
put in scrapbooks,
etc.
The “
BEATLE FUN KIT
” is a
very unique type of
publication
. In fact, it is not only a “
BEATLE
FUN
KIT
”, it is just as much or even more a “BEATLE
FAN
KIT” based on the
articles,
stories
and activities inside.
In this auction:
BEATLE FUN KIT MAGAZINE
It was published by Deidre Publications (DIG Magazine).
It was published in 1964.
The magazine has 51 pages including the front and rear covers.
Its original price was .00
It measures 13 ¾ -inches X 10 ½ -inches.
This was an
officially licensed
Beatles item.
The pages are printed on what seems to be a type of newsprint paper, a bit thicker and stiffer than newspaper newsprint, but that type of paper.
The front and rear covers are similar
t
o poster-board.
This
contents
w
ere
designed and aimed, for sure, at
the largest
group of Beatles’ fans:
Y
oung
T
eenage
G
irls!!!
It contains many both B&W and color photos of the Beatles together and individually. Many are full-page photos and text containing biographical information about each of the Beatles.
It contains a double-page color
c
enterfold
with the words “
OUR LEADERS!
”printed on it.
This is
often missing,
because
it was often detached from the staples and put on bedroom wall
s
.
Please n
ote that
p
robably 90% of these activities
in this publication
were intended to be
cut out
.
Jeff Augsburger, Marty Eck, and Rick Rann,
in
The Beatles Memorabilia Price Guide, 3
rd
Edition
,
state that the “
BEATLE FUN KIT
” is:
“
a difficult magazine to find intact because many
items in it were designed to be removed
”
And
this one is COMPLETE with NO MISSING PAGES and NOTHING CUT OUT!!!
The cover states that there are “
1001 FUN THINGS TO DO INSIDE
”.
I am truly amazed
and amused
at all of the
Beatle-related
“things to do”!

T
he front and rear color covers have retained much of their color,
t
he spine is intact and
ALL pages are still attached to the 2 staples
in the spine
.
This
publication
is in
VERY GOOD CONDITION
with the following that contribute to that grading: moderate wear on the top and bottom right corners
;
t
here are some light to moderate creases on both front and rear covers;
light to moderate wear on the edges of the cover;
the newsprint-
type material of the
pages (many glossy
on pages with color pics
) overall have moderate “foxing”/aging with some darker ‘foxing”/aging near the outer edges; there are
very small
tears that measure from ¼ -inch to 1 -inch (with NO paper loss) on the outside edges of about 11 pages probably caused by
the hand/thumb when
“leafing through” the magazine;
and there are some
small
water stains visible on the top edges and top corners of about half of the pages, but not on all pages.
You know how beat up, worn and trashed many original 1960s Beatles mag
s
typically are when you find them. But this one is not like that and still complete and never cut up as
it was intended to be
.
