For sale is a unique lot of 2 proofs from The Beatles Sgt. Pepper album released in 1967.
Winner will receive the following: A lithographer’s ‘color key’ proof and 4-color matchprint proof.
The first item is a proof comprised of 4 layers: one each of yellow, magenta, cyan and black, used in the printing process. Different percentages of these 4 colors create shades that when combined make up the picture’s finished look. Each colored piece of proofing material is a thin sheet of acetate, which is mounted onto a white cardboard, over-laid with the next color adhered at the top. It is designed to give the pressman an accurate representation of how the printed piece will look after each color of ink is applied to the sheet. This proof is for the inside photo that graced the Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band LP! Dimensions are 26 X 14.5 inches. Photos show the different color overlays with white sheets of paper between them to give a better idea of what this item is. [Text on pix is a watermark and not on actual item]
Second is a matchprint proof of the above referenced photo but it is ‘mirrored’ or reverse image of what the finished pic looks like. Dimensions are 25.5 X 12.5 inches. 2 halves are taped together on back. No idea what year these items were produced but appear to have been made from the LP jacket itself. These are being started VERY low to give anyone a chance at this unusual lot of Fab Four collectibles.
